Wood

Wood waste should be sorted for environmental reasons. Waste stations usually accept small amounts of wood. Often, waste stations will have separate collection for impregnated, treated and untreated wood. Sort your wood waste beforehand to speed up your visit to the waste station.

Wood waste is shredded into wood chips. Small metal parts can be separated with a magnet.

Recycling and recovery

Wood chips made out of untreated wood waste are used as a supporting medium for composting. The support medium enhances the breakdown of organic waste during the composting process. Wood waste can also be used to produce renewable fuel for energy production.

Responsible organizers

In Finland the users and importers of wood packaging are responsible for the collection and recycling of wood packaging. Municipalities are responsible for the collection of other wood products from households.
